Courier Payment Relief FAQs

Protecting the couriers we work with, our customers and our restaurant partners throughout this crisis remains our highest priority. We recognise that COVID-19 has brought huge uncertainty for many of the self-employed couriers in our network.

We understand that if couriers become ill or need to self-isolate this may stop couriers from being able to make a living. We have therefore committed to providing a 14 day relief payment (paid weekly), equivalent to two-thirds of courier's average weekly earnings from the past 6 weeks, so long as couriers meet the relevant conditions and decide not to use a substitute.

  • How will I make a claim?

Submit your isolation note - using your registered email (the one you used to become a courier) to couriercovidsupport@just-eat.ie and include the below statement. This is essential for us to process any information you provide and to make any relief payments.

I [ full name ] consent to Just Eat processing information about my health in order to review my suitability for relief payment.

Once validated, you will have any runs removed from your account for 14 days for public health and safety reasons. You can regain access to runs at any time by contacting us once you are able to safely resume delivery services.

  • What is Just Eat doing to support me while I am in self-isolation due to Covid-19?

We recognise that COVID-19 has brought huge uncertainty for many of the self-employed couriers in our network. We have therefore committed to providing a 14 day relief payment (calculated daily, paid weekly), equivalent to two-thirds of your average weekly earnings from the past 6 weeks, so long as you meet the relevant conditions.

  • How do I qualify for this relief payment?

You will need to submit an isolation note or equivalent from the HSE, a doctor, or registered medical professional or public health authority requiring you to self-isolate due to the risk of spreading COVID-19 and give us permission to process information about your health in order to review my suitability for relief payment.

You will also need to have been regularly active on the Just Eat IE delivery network in the last 6 weeks and delivered a minimum 20 orders on average per week or delivered 100 orders in less than 6 weeks.

  • Are there any terms or conditions for me to be aware of as a courier?

Full terms and conditions as follows:

      • A courier is eligible for the Covid-19 relief payment, subject to granting consent for Just Eat to process his/her personal data as will be requested when sending isolation note, if:
        • Courier has been active on the Just Eat network for at least the 6 weeks immediately prior to the Sunday before date of calculation and
        • During that period of 6 weeks has on average across the 6 weeks delivered a minimum of 20 orders and or 100 orders delivered in less than 6 weeks
        • Provides a doctor’s note prescribing self-isolation. Name of courier and note needs to match and
        • The courier decides not to have a substitute during the same period of 14 days and
        • The courier applies for the relief payment using the same email address as they activated the courier account or they can confirm the last 4 digits of the bank account they use to receive their weekly fee.

      • A courier is only eligible for one period of up to 14 days of courier relief payment.

      • The relief program will be effective until 31st March 2021.

      • Payment will be made weekly on Fridays for the previous week (Monday - Sunday) if appropriate documentation and consent is received by the end of Sunday.
        • Relief payment = [day rate] x [number of eligible days], where
        • [day rate] = (1/7) x (66% of courier’s average weekly earnings for the six weeks ended on the most recent Sunday), and
        • [number of eligible days] = number of days in earning period (ie. Monday-Sunday) for which courier’s relief payment has been approved.

      • Average support relief payment paid is calculated as follows:
        • 66% of the average of the previous 6 weeks’ weekly delivery fees for the most recently completed week (ending on Sunday) for the courier applying
          • I.e. if the courier provides relevant and correct documentation on Tuesday 24th November 2020 average would be calculated based on weeks starting Monday 2nd November 2020 and until Sunday 22nd November 2020
  • When will I receive payment?

We are committing to make these payments weekly, which is in line with how we usually pay you.

Payment will be made weekly on Fridays for the previous week (Monday - Sunday) if the relevant and correct documentation and consent is received by the end of Sunday.

  • Why is there a minimum order limit and a minimum time constraint?

While we recognise the financial strain this pandemic is putting on all of us, the intent of this program is to maximise the financial support for our couriers that rely on Just Eat for a material amount of their income.

  • How long will you be doing this for?

The current package is effective until 31st March 2021. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves.

  • How much will I be paid?

This is dependent on the average number of orders you have delivered for Just Eat in the past 6 weeks, you will be paid 66% of your average weekly earnings, pro-rated for every day you are in isolation, up to a maximum of 14 days.

  • Why only two-thirds of my wages?

We believe the commitment to guarantee two-thirds of the earnings from our network of our independent couriers strikes the right balance between helping to ease some of your financial concern at this difficult time and maximising the reach of this program across the most number of couriers impacted. We also recognise that when you’re not working, you’re not incurring expenses related to work, such as fuel, insurance and depreciation.
