Famous Indian Dishes You Have To Try

Indian food has become one the most popular cuisines around the world. And to be honest we can understand why; the collection of aromatic dishes that burst with flavour and spices is hard to resist on any day of the week. There’s also so much diversity within Indian cuisine that makes it exciting to always be trying a new dish when you order on Just Eat.

It’s risky business trying new dishes though if they don’t turn out to be what you expect, especially when you think you’ve already found your perfect Indian flavour! With that in mind, we have pulled together some of the most famous Indian dishes that we believe everyone should try, from the spicy, to aromatic to veggie-friendly we think we’ve compiled some seriously tasty treats that are sure to shake up your next Indian order on Just Eat.

Tandoori Chicken

This is one of our favourite Indian dishes! Chicken is marinated in yogurt and seasoned with the spice mixture tandoori masala. Its red hue comes from the red chili powder and cayenne pepper used to coat the roasted chicken. Western alternatives also use garlic and garlic paste to marinate the chicken and give it a slightly milder flavour. The dish is traditionally prepared in a clay oven called a tandoor, which is where this Indian dishes popular name stems from (bet you didn’t know that!). India Gate has some amazing Indian dishes including a Tandoori Chicken that is definitely on our order list!

Malai Kofta

An Indian veggie dish that is to die for! This is an incredibly creamy, rich and mild dish that melts in the mouth. A lot of restaurants make cottage cheese balls that are cooked in a creamy aromatic curry sauce made of tomatoes and cashews nuts. It’s the perfect dish for sharing with friends or dipping your naan bread into. Tadka House has some of our favourite Indian dishes and does an especially tasty Malai Kofta.

Vindaloo

I think we both already know that this dish is fiery, hot! Vindaloo is an Indian dish popular in the region of Goa and is a staple of many Indian restaurants – but be warned it’s not for the faint of heart. This dish is rather versatile in that it can be paired with a variety of meats, including beef, chicken, lamb, and some people even tempt to have it with prawns. The typical vindaloo dish is a spicy blend of tomatoes, onion, cumin, coriander, and of course quite a few chilies. A dish bound to put a pep in your step, you can order your Vindaloo from Spice of India tonight.

Naan

Okay, so it’s not exactly a fully-fledged Indian dish, but you can’t tell us any Indian feast is complete without naan! It’s simply not the same. This flatbread is a popular addition to almost any dish in Asia and the Middle East. Traditionally naan is served hot and brushed with butter – more western interpretations have seen variations like garlic naan, which we are massive fans of. It’s just everything we could want and more! Whatever type of naan you like, this side dish is supposed to be eaten with chutneys or dipped into sauce. No Indian dish is complete without naan. Eastern Tandoori has an extensive selection of naan breads and we want to order every single one of them.

Butter Chicken

So we’re not biased or anything, but Butter Chicken is God’s gift to all of us and we need to receive it. Traditionally the chicken is cooked in a tandoor and then added to a sauce of tomato, cardamom, and garlic which is pureed and then butter is added with a selection of delicious spices including cumin, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, pepper, asafoetida, fenugreek, and cream. Do you hear that?! It’s us running away from this blog to order some of this deliciousness from Korma At Home.

Palak Paneer

This is another vegetarian Indian dish we love. Palak Paneer is a pretty simple dish and super healthy, made up of cottage cheese (the paneer part), in a thick paste made from pureed spinach, garlic, ginger, garam masala and other light spices. It’s typically served with your favourite naan bread. It’s such a famous dish because of its deep green colour which typically goes against the warm hues of other Indian dishes. But don’t be fooled by this dishes simple ingredients, it’s full of flavour and is definitely a healthy choice if you want to have a cheeky takeaway but don’t want to feel guilty about it. Order yours from Khans Balti House.

Rogan Josh

An aromatic dish that has Persian and Kashmiri origin. This dish is made up of braised lamb with a sauce base of onions, garlic, ginger, yogurt, and a selection of spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, bay leaves). Sounds like the perfect Indian dish to us! It’s famously deep red color comes from the addition of Kashmiri chilies (quite a few) that are usually de-seeded to reduce the heat. Although this dish looks spicy, don’t be fooled, it’s a milder dish that is more on the aromatic side than firey spice. It’s a standout dish amongst Indian cuisine and one of our favouirtes on this list. Try this dish tonight with the family from Golden Tandoori.

That sure was some serious delicious Indian spice! Ordered all of these Indian dishes already? Fear not, we have countless more dishes for you to try on Just Eat here – it’s all just a tap away.
