Ryan Coogler’s rebootquel of the Rocky franchise: Creed. Centering on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) – the son of deceased boxing Champion Apollo Creed – the film follows the up-and-comer as he enlists the help of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) in order to follow in his father’s footsteps.

The big screen adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s celebrated book Room. Brie Larson, who has already picked up a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for her performance. Room is a life-affirming movie about survival, resilience and an inspiring lust for life. Definitely a must see!

The Hateful Eight
Quentin Tarantino’s sprawling, bloody three-hour Western charts the nasty business perpetrated by a group of strangers (including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen) who all converge during a blizzard at a remote cabin.
Takeaway to order: Heat up with some spicy Mexican fajitas, chilli or burritos!
John Crowley’s adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s novel about a young Irish immigrant’s journey to America and struggle to acclimatise. Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan was named British/Irish actress of the year at the London Critics Circle Awards. It’s the latest in a string of nominations and awards for the 21-year-old Irish star as she gears up for the Oscars with a Best Actress nomination.
Takeaway to order: Fresh fish and chips always a reminder of home.
Looking for laughs? This probably isn’t the place to find them. Robert De Niro in various states of undress, tries to get grandson Zac Efron, in various states of undress, to take him to Florida, home of bikini-clad babes. Sigh.
Takeaway to order: Pizza, pizza, pizza! If nothing else it might cheer you up afterwards.
Perhaps the most visually stunning film of 2015—now getting a nationwide release —this “based-on-real-events” survivalist saga by Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a fur trader who, after barely living through a bear attack, seeks revenge against a traitorous comrade (Tom Hardy).
